Add On To Your Treatment... because it'll only help.
Add Hot Stones: Add some Hot Stones to your Prenatal Massage to give yourself the ultimate massage experience. The heat from the stones will help dissolve muscle tension without involving deep pressure. ($10 extra)
Add Cupping: Add the traditional Chinese treatment of Cupping to your Relaxation Massage. Cupping helps release the fascia, muscles and tendons and flush away inflammation. The circular red marks disappear after a couple days post treatment. Our experienced therapists will know where to perform cupping and where to avoid it during your prenatal massage.($10 extra)
Because every woman's pregnancy is different and each patient may respond differently, we do not recommend essential oil add-on's.
Please mention any add-on's when booking your appointment over the phone or online. These add-on's are performed by our Registered Massage Therapists and are covered by your Extended Health Insurance.
Direct billing to insurance is available. You can view a list of all insurance companies we direct bill here.
Give yourself the massage that it needs! Our Registered Massage Therapists are trained in prenatal massage and will help you alleviate specific pain related to pregnancy. We can accommodate and treat mothers at all stages of pregnancy with proper prenatal pillows and bolsters.
Common FAQ's about Prenatal Massage
Q: How often should I come for a massage while I'm pregnant?
A: In general, massage should be incorporated into your prenatal health regime to help reduce stress and relax tight muscles. We suggest having regular monthly massages throughout your pregnancy and increasing the frequency to bi-monthly massages as you reach your due date. If you are having complications with pregnancy such as severe back pain, increased muscle tension, insomnia, low mood, etc, we suggest seeing our Acupuncturist and Naturopathic Doctor for extra help and treatments.
Q: I am in my first trimester of pregnancy and I am told to stay away from massage. Is it safe to get massages during my first trimester?
A: During the first trimester of pregnancy there is a higher chance of miscarriages. Many practitioners will be cautious not to treat during this time for liability reasons. However, unless there are other underlying health issues, massage during the first trimester is safe. Our RMTs are highly trained to address and treat all your pregnancy needs and concerns.
Q: How close to my due date can I still go for massages?
A: It is perfectly safe and even advisable by many doulas for you to have massage up to your due date (and after delivery). Our RMTs will cater to your needs whether it is back pain, hip pain, or if you just need a soothing gentle massage. Massage helps mobilize lymphatics and increase blood flow, hence assisting in an easier delivery. Also, as we reduce cortisol stress hormones through relaxation massage, the mind and body will be more relaxed and prepared for delivery.
Q: Do you use special prenatal pillows or cushions?
A: Yes, we use special prenatal pillows and bolters so that there is no pressure on the abdomen or inferior vena cava (large blood vessel). We do not use tables with holes since it does not provide enough support for the large belly dangling against gravity. Your spine and surrounding muscles will be more relaxed in these positions than on a table with a hole. The body cushion that we use is displayed in the pictures above and also is similar to the one demonstrated in this video below.
