Our Essence Team
Dr. Taylor has a strong interest in mind-body and patient-centred medicine. Listening compassionately and guiding patients towards their best health, Dr. Taylor takes time to discuss treatment options with patients in order for them to make informed decisions. She finds a balance between the wisdom of nature and naturopathic principles, evidence-based medicine and patient goals, when designing individualized regimens for each person.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in biology, a Master of Science in muscle physiology and completed a year of PhD coursework and research in molecular neuroscience. She then followed her passion for holistic healing and obtained her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in Toronto. She brings to her patients a balance between conventional sciences, naturopathic philosophy and her personal journey as a yoga student and teacher, respecting the varied treatments that may resonate with an individual on his or her healing path.
Searching for treatment options for a patient with chronic Lyme disease, Dr. Taylor was fortunate to train with an internist in New York. She became one of the first Canadian doctors (ND or MD) to complete the Physicians Training Program through the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS), a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to the diagnosis and appropriate treatment of Lyme and its associated diseases. In the years since, much of her practice is devoted to treating patients either misdiagnosed, mistreated or left untreated for these illnesses. Dr. Taylor continues to learn about how these and other illnesses can influence several systems of the body, destabilize the immune system, and complicate diagnosis and symptoms and has recently completed another ILADS Physicians Training in California. She has been invited to present at conferences and supported Lyme disease awareness campaigns including for the documentary Under Our Skin.
Though much of her practice is focused on treating Lyme and tick borne illnesses, she has a family practice, seeing patients with conditions ranging from fatigue, hormone imbalances anxiety, digestive disorders and allergies, among others. Believing in a collaborative approach to medicine, Dr. Taylor may refer patients to see other health care providers, NDs, MDs or other therapists, discussing these options with each individual to find what is most suitable.
